People desiring to volunteer for flood relief ministry in Mississippi and Louisiana can now be coordinated to easily sign up in both states according to the Rev. Deacon Cathy Halford, a member of the diocesan Disaster Preparedness and Response Team (DPRT).
St. Paul’s/New Orleans has a volunteer sign up sheet that Mississippians can use to coordinate their efforts with a regular team of work crews to help with flood relief in the Baton Rouge area.
Individuals and groups may click on the link below to sign up to work. The volunteer coordinator for St. Paul’s will contact those in the Diocese of Mississippi to inform them on where to meet and when.
Also, there was flooding in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Three homes were destroyed, 23 with major damage and 58 with minor damage. The Crosby Baptist Church in Crosby is the command center for all of Wilkinson County.
People are needed to help gut houses, trailers and with rebuilding. Contact the Rev. Cathy Halford at chalford48@yahoo.com if you would like to volunteer to work in Wilkinson County.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has awarded a $250,000 grant that will be funneled through a non-profit to those who need help with rebuilding. Also, the Diocese of Mississippi has sent a grant to Wilkinson County for additional help.
