[MSE] As reported in the January issue of The Mississippi Episcopalian, Bishop Gray has challenged parishioners across the diocese to join him in a Lenten Discipline of reading all four gospels. Below is a daily schedule of the readings which begin Feb. 22, Ash Wednesday, with the Gospel of Mark and ends with John during Holy Week.
“This Bible reading initiative, begun at Fort Washington, Pennsylvania and endorsed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, our Presiding Bishop and other archbishops and bishops from around the Anglican Communion, is an effort to invite a serious and rigorous reading of scripture throughout the year,” said Bishop Gray.
Gray said the reading is designed to be more reflective, much like the process of lectio divina, or holy reading approach, rather than a Bible study.
In Mississippi, the initial focus of the Bible challenge will be on the four gospels. Participants are urged to register on the diocesan website (www.dioms.org) or through your local parish.
