ST. PATRICK'S BREASTPLATE (modified by Jill Woodliff)

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan, especially the Episcopal Church of Sudan and Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul, a mighty strength: the invocation of the Trinity, the Three in One, and One in Three.

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan, by power of faith, the strength of Christ's Incarnation: conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, baptized, crucified, died, descended into hell, arose, and ascended into heaven.

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan: the hope of resurrection and heavenly reward, confessors' faith, apostles' word, patriarchs' prayers, prophets' scrolls; all good deeds done unto the Lord, and purity of virgin souls.

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan the virtues of Your creation: strength of heaven, light of sun, radiance of moon, splendour of fire, speed of lightning, swiftness of wind, depth of sea, stability of earth, firmness of rock.

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan: God's strength to pilot them, God's might to uphold them, God's wisdom to guide them, God's eye to look before them, God's ear to hear them, God's word to speak for them, God's hand to guard them, God's way to lie before them, God's shield to protect them, God's host to secure them:

Against the demon snares of sin, the vice that gives temptation force, the natural lusts that war within, the hostile men that mar their course; of few or many, far or nigh, in every place, and in all hours against all fierce hostility.

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan these holy powers: against all Satan's spells and wiles, against false words of heresy, against the knowledge that defiles, against the heart's idolatry, against the wizard's evil craft.

Christ, shield them today against deprivation, starvation, exposure, disease, despair, violence, and death.

Christ with them, Christ before them, Christ behind them,
Christ in them, Christ beneath them, Christ above them,
Christ on their right, Christ on their left,
Christ where they lie down, Christ where they sit down, Christ where they arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of them,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of them,
Christ in every eye that sees them,
Christ in every ear that hears them.

This day, we bind unto Your children in Sudan, especially the Episcopal Church of Sudan and Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul, the Name, the strong Name of the Trinity, by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and One in Three, of whom all nature hath creation.

Salvation is of the Lord.
Salvation is of the Lord.
Salvation is of Christ.
May Your Salvation, O Lord, be ever with them.
