[MSE] In the wake the largest raid of undocumented immigrants working in Mississippi on August 7, Bishop Brian Seage is asking for Episcopalians to be ready to help.
“We don’t know how many children have been affected at this time, but I am asking for churches and individuals willing to help with caring for the children to contact local officials,” said Bishop Seage. “Likewise, we are exploring avenues through which support, financial and otherwise, may be extended. If you are ready to make a financial gift to families impacted by yesterday’s arrests, please make checks payable to The Diocese of Mississippi with the notation ‘Bishop’s Discretionary Account—ICE.’
“There will be a statement from bishops in the Catholic Diocese of Jackson, The United Methodist Church, and the Episcopal Church that will be published soon regarding this massive raid of undocumented working immigrants that left children at school without their parents or a place to go.”
If anyone knows of a child affected by the raid, call Lea Anne Brandon, Director of Communications for Child Protective Services at 1-800-8000. The agency has licensed foster beds and emergency shelter waiting according to a report published on the WLBT-TV website.
