The Rev. Dr. Minka Shura Sprague, Associate Rector at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Jackson, will receive General Seminary’s 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award in late October.
Sprague came to Jackson in 2003 from New York City, where she served as the Professor of New Testament and Biblical Languages at New York Theological Seminary. She also served on the staff of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Minka was the first woman and layperson to be awarded The General Theological Seminary’s Th.D., granted in New Testament studies.
The Rev. Sprague is the author of One to Watch, One to Pray: An Introduction to the Gospels and Praying from the Free-Throw Line- For Now.
Having grown up in northern Missouri and attended the University of Minnesota, she considers the Mississippi River her spine.
Sprague will receive the award on October 27 and is the scheduled preacher for the event.
