The Feast of John and Charles Wesley, March 3rd, is for the third year targeted as a day where Episcopal and Methodist congregations gather for common worship and celebration as a way of living into the Covenant of Common Life that was signed between the two denominations in 2008.
Oxford is the site for this year's gathering and is hosted by St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Oxford United Methodist. Both Bishops Gray and Ward will be celebrating Holy Eucharist at the joint service taking place in the Methodist Church.
Please join St. Peter's, Oxford, on Thursday March 3, 2011 beginning at 5:30 p.m. for a Celebration of the Covenant of Common Life signed in 2009 by Bishop Hope Ward and Bishop Duncan Gray III. We begin with a reception (hors d'oevres) at St. Peter's in the parish hall at 5:30, then process to Oxford United Methodist (about 2 blocks) around 6:20 p.m. followed by a service of Holy Communion beginning at 6:30 p.m. Bishop Ward will celebrate and Bishop Gray will preach. Following the service there will be a coffee-cookies reception in Wesly Hall at Oxford United Methodist. Clergy are invited to vest and process; color of the day is red.
