As the Ebola virus continues to spread through West Africa so many of us have felt helpless to anything to respond. If you are so inclined I offer the following option:
Cuttington College is an Episcopal institution in Liberia and the oldest private university in the South Saharan in West Africa. It has the largest nursing program in the country and its biology degree program forms the pre-requisite for most students enrolling in the country's only medical school.
Thus, students and graduates of Cuttington have been in the forefront of the Ebola battle in West Africa and the virus has taken a deadly toll on Cuttington alumni and current students.
All schools have now been closed in Liberia. Dependent to a large degree on student fees, Cuttington College now stands in a precarious financial position. Permanent closure and the loss of the very medical and nursing programs needed for the future of Liberia are real possibilities.
