The Bishop’s Mission Corps is a program created by the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi for young adults (20-30). Our purpose is to create and sustain a deeper spiritual life for young adults through the ever-expanding medium of Christian service and mission and to provide them an intentional space for vocational discernment. The program emphasizes three critical areas of importance to all Christian life, Life in the Spirit, Theological Education, and Personal Reflection. Participants will have the opportunity to prayfully discern the wisdom and will of God in their own lives while fulfilling God’s call for us to live together in intentional Christian community.
Communal Life in the Spirit
The BMC offers Christians and other seekers of truth an opportunity enter into in an ancient rhythm of structured communal living. Inspired by the Rule of St. Benedict of Nursia, participants observe the daily offices of Morning Prayer, Noonday, Evening Prayer, and Compline. In addition, instruction in disciplines such as lectio divina (sacred reading), centering prayer, and others are provided by various clergy from around the diocese. Communal life is sacredly explored under the banner of mutual obedience, freeing the community to manifest itself under God’s direction.
Theological Education

In the Book of Common Prayer, we affirm that we are called to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice to God. The BMC allows participants to live into this affirmation by engaging in a formal education series emphasizing theological education. Formal education will provide a means for students to investigate their own theological interests as well as formulate a sound understanding of Chistian doctrines. Participants will have the pleasure of studying the wisdom of classic Christian authors such as St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas as well as contemporay theologians such as C. S. Lewis and N. T. Wright.
Personal Reflection
Share your personal spiritual journey with an intentionally Christian community. Together in acknowledging and accepting our strengths and frailties we also accept God’s love and mercy known to us through the witness of others in community.
