January's Book Club

by Fr. Jeff

"When you visualized a man or woman carefully, you could always begin to feel pity— that was a quality God's image carried with it."

The January meeting of the Book Club will take place on Sunday Evening, January 20th, at 5:30pm.  This month we will be looking at another of the world's great novelists- Graham Greene and his much acclaimed book: The Power and the Glory

This book is considered by many to rank among the finest books written.  It explores corruption and redemption, sin and salvation, and the Power of God in our lives.  There are many theological talking points and other issues dealing with the heart of man.  This discussion should prove both exciting and enlightening.

Book may be had in the following manners:

  1. The Golden Triangle Library system has several books available and they may be checked out through the Evans Memorial Library in Aberdeen.  The Library in Amory will also have access to several copies.
  2. You may shop places like:
    1. Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/Power-Glory-Twentieth-Century-Classics/dp/0140184996
    2. Barnes and Noble:  http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780142437308&itm=1
    3. Or one of many used book sellers on the Internet such as ABE books:  http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=Graham+Greene&sts=t&tn=The+Power+and+the+Glory&x=0&y=0
    4. Or may purchase the book through one of the local bookstores in Tupelo, Columbus or Starkvile (although the only Bookstore I have seen it in of late has been the Barnes and Noble on the campus of MSU)
    5. Or if you need assistance in obtaining a book please call Fr. Jeff at the Church.

The last few book clubs and meetings have seen some outstanding discussion and everyone learned a tremendous amount...so please do consider making this offering a part of your devotion and practice.

God bless.

Fr. Jeff+
